HOW WE’RE RECOMMITTING TO SAFETY...
A YEAR LATER
The tragedies at Oil Sands in the first five months of 2014 shook our collective confidence.
For many of us, it raised important questions: What are we missing? And, how can we say we value safety when our co-workers are dying on the job?
So, we took a pause. And, we refocused on what matters most – everyone's commitment to our number one value: safety above all else.
We launched the Oil Sands Safety Step Change Task Force to better understand the issues. We held company-wide, mandatory-attendance safety stand down sessions to talk about safety. And beginning with our executive leadership team, we made personal safety commitments to renew our focus on the Journey to Zero.
“We have made progress and people should feel proud about how we responded to everything that happened last year,” says Steve Williams, president and CEO. “But we can’t ever afford to get comfortable or complacent.
The risks are always lurking.”
