We’re the Business of the Year in Commerce City
Commerce City recently named Suncor its 2014 Business of the Year – a prestigious honour bestowed on companies that demonstrate sustained leadership in their industries and the local community. Suncor was recognized for more than $1.3 billion in capital investments in Colorado since 2003, contributing to projects and initiatives that improve the environment, increase economic opportunity and enhance quality of life. “Suncor and our other business all-stars exemplify how companies throughout the community are redefining commerce for the next generation,”
says Commerce City Mayor Sean Ford.
Tackling heavy issues at the
Heavy Oil Congress
In March, Suncor participated in the 2015 World Heavy Oil Congress in Edmonton. Themed “doing more with less,” the event brought together industry leaders to share challenges and develop sustainable solutions. “The congress tackled important issues like market access,” says
Mark Little, EVP Upstream. “To emerge from this commodity cycle in a more competitive position, we must continue to be at the forefront of these issues.” As honorary chair, Mark opened the congress with remarks on how Suncor is prepared to weather these uncertain times and the industry’s history of resilience. Several other Suncor employees delivered technical papers and technology presentations.

U.K. tax breaks will benefit us
To reduce complexity for investors and stimulate spending on exploration in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf, the U.K. government has reduced a levy charged to producers by 12 per cent and introduced a basin-wide investment allowance. According to Mark Thalgott, commercial advisor in Aberdeen, “These changes will have a significant impact on our bottom line and are essential to encourage new investment and sustain mature fields in the U.K. North Sea,” where Suncor has a 30 per cent interest in the Buzzard field and 27 per cent interest in the recently commissioned Golden Eagle field.
