PIP enters the home stretch
The multi-year program to clean up and improve processes we rely on for our day-to-day work is nearing the finish line.
Almost two and a half years later, the Process Improvement Program (PIP) is coming up on
its seventh and final release in February. “We’re definitely not coasting to the finish line,” says Michelle Rousseau, GM PIP solution design & delivery. “We are wrapping up with some of the most technically complex and broadest improvements to date.”
Once this work is live and the stabilization period runs out in May, the program officially comes to an end but the journey does not. In fact, process improvement never ends. It’s part of a continuous improvement culture in an organization like ours that strives for operational excellence.
Some new Information & Process Management (I&PM) projects have already been created to carry on the process work including remaining activities for security.
“I&PM will partner with the business to continue the focus on process so we drive adoption and realize the associated benefits,” says Michelle.
Stay tuned for more information about life after PIP.
In the meantime, the February release includes some activities to tie up loose ends from past releases as well as set the stage for future work along with the following bigger projects:
New learning system makes the grade
It will be easier to stay on top of our learning needs and activities with a new, user-friendly Learning Management System replacing the Suncor Learning Solution, also known as the LSO. It is a first step toward a standard, end-to-end learning process. Other learning systems such as
Mary Luz Posada, process lead for the reliability work, participates in a workshop to discuss the February release.
Active Learner are not affected by this release and will be the focus of future migration.
Reliability solution keeps us up and running
The main focus of the reliability work is to reduce unplanned downtime in our operating plants. This work introduces best practice technology, processes and governance to make our asset strategies consistent, documented and accessible – all in the name of increased asset availability and reduced maintenance costs.
Mastering master data
Incomplete and inaccurate master data in SAP is like running an engine without oil. This work puts governance and controls in place to improve how we create, maintain and retire our data. It also establishes standards and clearly defined roles to drive quality in the data we rely on every day for vendors, equipment and other business needs.
Making better use of our inventories
With no option to put unused materials back in our inventories, we may end up buying more than we need. This release, we are introducing a material returns process making it possible to return unused materials to the warehouse for reassignment to other work orders, return to vendors, recycling or scrap. Better use of our existing inventory saves time and money.
What does it mean to me?
If you are affected by this work, you can expect to receive more detailed information.
