1979
Suncor Inc. forms when all the Canadian operations of Sun Company Inc. are amalgamated with Great Canadian Oil Sands.
2001
Suncor partners with Enbridge Inc. to open Saskatchewan's  rst major supply of renewable energy – SunBridge Wind Power Project (17 wind turbines generating 11 megawatts of electricity).
2003
Suncor acquires ConocoPhillips’ Commerce City, Colorado, re nery, Phillips-branded retail stations and associated storage, pipeline and distribution facilities; 585 employees join the Suncor team.
2009
The merger of Suncor and Petro-Canada becomes effective Aug. 1, creating Canada's largest energy company and the  fth largest North American-based energy company.
2013
In a deal worth $1 billion, Suncor agrees to sell the conventional portion of its natural gas business in Western Canada.
2015
Suncor purchases an additional 10 per cent working interest in Fort Hills from Total E&P Canada Ltd. for a total partnership share of 50.8 per cent.
2016
Suncor completes the acquisition of Canadian Oil Sands Limited following shareholder approval of an amalgamation agreement.
Suncor closes the purchase of a  ve per cent interest in Syncrude from Murphy Oil Corporation's Canadian subsidiary, bringing our share in the joint venture to 53.74 per cent.
Suncor announces an agreement to sell its Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. business to a subsidiary of HollyFrontier Corporation.
Suncor announces it will acquire a 30 per cent participating interest in the U.K. North Sea Rosebank project from OMV (U.K.) Limited.
Suncor enters participation agreements with
Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) and Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN) in East Tank Farm Development Together, FMFN and MCFN will own 49 per cent of the asset.
1976
Employees in Fort McMurray discover the bones of a woolly mammoth, which are donated to the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton.
1979
GCOS and the Canadian operations of the Sun Company merge to create Suncor Inc.
1974
GCOS becomes pro table.
1981
Suncor celebrates 200 millionth barrel.
1994
Suncor voluntarily reports its greenhouse gas emissions performance with the formation of Canada’s Voluntary Challenge and Registry.
1992
Transition from bucket wheel to truck and shovel begins.
On March 18, Suncor becomes a publicly-traded company with an initial share price equivalent to $2.38.
1995
As part of Suncor’s growth strategy, head of ce moves from Toronto to Calgary.
2013
Suncor, together with joint venture co-owners Total E&P Canada Ltd. and Teck Resources Limited., votes to proceed with the Fort Hills oil sands mining project.
2016
Suncor becomes majority shareholder of Syncrude.
2017
Suncor celebrates the 50th anniversary of oil sands operations.
