Employees and retirees from across our operations share their favourite Suncor moments
“In celebration of
the rst tailings pond
ever reclaimed in
industry, I had the
opportunity to plant
a tree seedling on
Wapisiw Lookout
in 2010.”
– Kashif Hussain, team leader, procurement, Fort McMurray
“My favourite memory of working for Suncor is how good the company has been to my family. My grandfather, Germain Routhier, was one of the original employees, badge #184, and worked for the company for 20 years. With all of my family members who have worked for or are working for Suncor, we have close to 150 years of Suncor experience.”
– Jeremy Fresz, team leader, PS&C upgrading, Fort McMurray
Working for the Community Partnership Program gave me an enormous feeling of achievement and satisfaction because I felt I was contributing to the well-being of our community and responding to an important humanitarian call. The most gratifying moment of my career, however, was during the Montréal re nery’s 50th anniversary with the retirees in attendance. To see their happy faces and sense their emotions was worth a million bucks.”
– Élise Montpetit, dispatcher, translation services, Montréal
“Suncor provided me with career opportunities that were not readily available with other companies where I enjoyed a secure and challenging career. I remember the excitement and uncertainty that came along with becoming a publicly-traded company and all the talk around employee participation in owning shares.”
– Keith Thompson, retiree, former supervisor, CMS electronics
“One of my favourite memories
working at Suncor was the day
we injected the rst steam at
MacKay River in September
2002 after many months of
intense work.”
– Claire Greenwood, director, East Tank Farm asset management, Calgary
“My top memory has to be the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Throughout the games, there was a buzz in the city but I think we felt special at Petro-Canada. It wasn’t until the games were closing that I realized how great those games were for us.
It’s something I will never forget.”
– Cyril Degenstein, coordinator, business admin, Oakville
