A MESSAGE FROM GERRY MELLERSH, LEAD JUDGE...
This category recognizes initiatives that continue Suncor’s Journey to Zero and signi cantly improve the integrity and performance of our assets. The maturity level of Suncor’s safety programs have changed substantially over the last number of years, we have moved from reactive/compliance based processes to proactive/learning and sharing. Key performance indicators for injury frequency are breaking new ground in many areas, milestones that were once thought as of great achievements are now the norm.
Many of this year’s nominations are very transferable and repeatable across our facilities. You can feel a shift in the culture around safety with felt safety ownership, active participation through all levels. Tools and forums have enabled better learning and sharing of information.
I’m proud to say “We are a safety focused organization” and live by our value of “safety above all else”. With the dedication and passion demonstrated by this year’s award recipients, I’m con dent that we are walking the talk, continuously monitoring and reducing risk and improving our overall safety performance.
