Alvarez and Dale MacKnight were winners of the Real
Stampede Family Contest at this year’s Suncor Family Day
Stampede Breakf
ast, July 6. During this year’s event,
170 Suncor employees and their families served breakfast
to 22,000 Stampede visitors. In addition
to spreading
western hospitality, the event directed some 2,000
pounds of compostable plates, napkins, cutlery and other
waste to recyc
ling and inspired Stampede organizers to
launch a similar waste-reduction plan year-round.
Burrard gets neighbourly
Our Burrard Products Terminal in Vancouver’s Lower Mainland proved
a popular neighbourhood draw once again. Hundreds of people
interested in learning more about Suncor and the terminal attended
an open house at the facility on July 16. There was lots
to see and do including interactive displays on
the Oil Sands, Distribution, Environment,
Health & Safety and Environmental
Remediation, and of course Burrard
wildlife and history. The terminal has
been distributing fuel since the 1920s.
Today, it distributes more than three
billion litres of fuel a year via pipeline,
marine tankers, trucks and rail.
Successful tow for Hebron
The Hebron project has achieved another milestone. The Hebron gravity based
structure (GBS) was towed recently from the dry dock along the pristine coastline of
Newfoundland to the deepwater construction site where construction continues today.
The GBS is a reinforced concrete structure designed to withstand sea ice, icebergs,
and meteorological and oceanographic conditions. It will be capable of storing
approximately 1.2 million barrels of crude oil and will support an integrated topsides
deck that includes living quarters and facilities for drilling and production. The project
has been under development since 2011, and irst oil is expected in 2017. Suncor has a
22.7 per cent working interest.
